Vonn wins 1st race since January 2013

Lindsey Vonn is back.

The 30-year-old American skier won her first race since January 2013 on Saturday, finishing first in a World Cup downhill event at Lake Louise in Alberta. And Tiger Woods' excitement could barely be contained:

Vonn, a 2010 Olympic gold medallist, was forced to miss the 2014 Sochi Games after having multiple knee surgeries. On Saturday, her knee was the furthest thing from her mind.

"My knee feels really good," Vonn said. "I don't think about my knee at all. I don't ski differently because of it. I'm back to doing what I used to do."

Vonn and her American teammates Stacey Cook and Julia Mancuso swept the podium Saturday, a first for the U.S. team.

"It really couldn't be a better day," Vonn added.

The Associated Press has more on "vintage Vonn":

Confident in the stability of her right knee again, the four-time overall champion aggressively charged the course and finished in a time of 1 minute, 50.48 seconds to earn her 15th career win at Lake Louise. ...

The day before, in Vonn's first World Cup race in nearly a year, she wasn't her usual aggressive self. She held back just a bit.

Not so on Saturday. Vonn took chances, like she usually does, especially here, on a course that's been dubbed "Lake Lindsey" due to all her success.

It was Vonn's 60th career World Cup win. She's two away from tying Annemarie Moser-Proell, an Austrian skier who holds the record with 62 career World Cup wins.

"It's always something I kind of think about," Vonn admitted. "It's more to motivate me in the summer. Right now, I'm just focusing on trying to ski well.

"I'm not expecting this kind of result all the time just yet. But it definitely gives me a lot of confidence."
