Roy says Matt Duchene unlikely to play in 1st round

Brace Hemmelgarn / USA Today

Colorado Avalanche fans were holding out hope that Matt Duchene would be able to return in the first round against the Minnesota Wild, but that no longer appears to be the case.

Duchene hasn't played since injuring his knee in late March, and head coach Patrick Roy said he doesn't expect him back in the opening round, via Adrian Dater of the Denver Post

The Avs captured Game 1 in heroic fashion, after Paul Stastny tied it late with the goalie pulled and then won it early in overtime, but losing Duchene could take its toll as the series wears on.

He led the Avalanche with 70 points this season, which was a career high.
