Florio: Peyton Manning's meeting with Nick Saban might be CBA violation

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

Pitting two of football's greatest minds in the same room is bound to stir up headlines, but after Peyton Manning sat down to compare notes with Alabama boss Nick Saban, it could be the quarterback's chaperone that steals them.

It was reported that Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase sat in on their meeting, a fact that ProFootballTalk's Adam Florio believes is in direct violation of the league's collective bargaining agreement.

"The new labor deal, struck in 2011, places clear limits on offseason activities.  Under Article 21, Section 2(a)(ii), players 'are not permitted to participate in . . . group or individual meetings with coaches' prior to the start of the team’s official offseason workout program," Florio writes.

"The Broncos have yet to start their official offseason program. Gase and Manning aren't allowed to meet."

If investigated, Florio notes that the Broncos could argue that Gase, a former pupil of Saban's at LSU, was there to visit his former mentor on his own accord.

Both the Broncos and league have yet to comment on the issue.
