NFC scout on Clowney: 'He’s never worked hard a day in his life'

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has a strong chance of going first overall in May's draft, but not everybody is convinced he's worthy of that distinction.

One NFC scout told nj.com he feels the reports about Clowney's work ethic are true.

“He’s spoiled, and he’s lazy,’’ the NFC personnel man said. “He’s never worked hard a day in his life, now all of a sudden you’re going to give him a bunch of money and expect him to work hard. I don’t see it.’’

He added that whoever takes Clowney will ultimately be disappointed.

“Oh, he’s going to be a high pick,’’ the personnel man said. “Some team will fall in love with him. But wait and see, just wait and see. I just don’t think you can count on him. I’m betting the under on him.’’

Bold claims from anonymous scouts around the draft are nothing new, but there were some concerns about Clowney's effort before he left school. Some felt he wasn't going all out in his final year in order to save himself for the NFL.

Even if that were the case, his abilities are great enough that a couple of work ethic questions wouldn't discourage a team from taking him in the top three.
