Bulls sign Mike James (again), Lou Amundson for stretch run

The Amityville Scorer is back from the basketball-dead.

For what feels like the 20th time, the Chicago Bulls have reportedly signed veteran guard Mike James. Because James wasn't on an NBA roster on March 1, the 38-year-old will be playoff-eligible.

James entered the league at 26 in 2001-02 with the Miami Heat undrafted out of Duquesne and, through that lens, is quite the success story. He's played parts of 12 NBA seasons, totaling 595 games, and has a championship ring from his time with the 2003-04 Detroit Pistons.

Over the past few seasons, however, he's been a basketball vagabond. The Bulls signed him in 2011-12 after he spent a year in Turkey but then waived him, only to sign him to two 10-day contracts that same season and then ink him for the remainder of the year. After playing with Dallas for 2012-13, James again found his way to the Bulls this season, only to be waived in December. Then? You guessed it, another 10-day contract in January, and now this late April signing.

It's unlikely that James will see any playing time - he averaged just seven minutes in 11 games earlier in the year when the Bulls were devoid of guard depth - but with an open roster spot and the playoffs approaching, Chicago has essentially added another assistant coach with championship experience. He could also act as the team's third point guard, turning Jimmer Fredette into strictly a spot-up shooter.

The Bulls have also reportedly signed Lou Amundson, who played 18 games with New Orleans earlier in the season. The 31-year-old forward has appeared in 345 NBA games over eight seasons, averaging 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds. He is also playoff-eligible.
