Report: Ted Nolan, Sabres working on a contract extension

Mar 10, 5:43 PM

Ted Nolan's interim tag could be a thing of the past, as the Buffalo Sabres head coach indicated after Monday's practice his representatives are in talks with general manager Tim Murray about a new contract.

"I put into my representative's hand and I guess he and Tim will be talking soon if not have talked already," Nolan told reporters. "Just formality and getting a couple of things ironed out and doing all the legal stuff. We'll leave it in their hands for now."

His future with the team was unclear after his comments on March 2 following Pat LaFontaine's resignation and the trade that sent goalie Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott to the St. Louis Blues.

“We traded our franchise player, we traded our captain. That’s tough enough as it is. And then all of a sudden the situation with Patty,” Nolan said. “Right now, I have to put my personal situation behind right now and really concentrate on those 22 guys here.”

Nolan has led the Sabres to a 15-22-7 record since taking over the Sabres' head coaching duties after Ron Rolston was fired on Nov. 13 2013.
