Just days after his release from the Pittsburgh Steelers, linebacker LaMarr Woodley is out shopping for a new team.

The 29-year-old tweeted that he was on the West Coast on Wednesday to meet with the Oakland Raiders, before heading to Tennessee on Thursday.

Woodley has spent his entire seven-year career in the Steel City and racked up five sacks and 36 tackles in 11 games last season. He was placed on season-ending IR in mid-December with a calf injury, but is expected to return with a clean bill of health in 2014.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley didn't stay without a team for very long.

Woodley was officially released by Pittsburgh on Tuesday, but received a lot of interest as soon as he hit the market. It's the second veteran defender the Raiders signed on Thursday after inking former Giants defensive end Justin Tuck to a two-year deal as well.

Woodley will be an interesting fit in Oakland as the Raiders play with a 4-3 scheme while Woodley was an outside linebacker in the Steelers 3-4 scheme. His numbers have slipped the past few seasons as Jason Worilds took over at left outside linebacker and Woodley was shifted to the right .

Woodley has just nine sacks total over the last two seasons after having at least nine sacks in four straight years.

Report: Steelers to cut LB LaMarr Woodley

by Mar 10, 2:05 PM

The moment the Pittsburgh Steelers applied the transition tag to outside linebacker Jason Worilds, the writing was on the wall for veteran pass rusher LaMarr Woodley.

Designating Woodley as a post-June 1 release will have much-needed positive salary cap implications for the Steelers. Pittsburgh has been trying to clean up a severe lack of cap space for much of the offseason.

The Steelers' second-round pick in the 2007 draft, Woodley recorded 57 sacks in his career in Pittsburgh. He stands fifth on the franchise's all-time list in that category.
