The NFL competition committee is considering placing the ball at the 25-yard line for extra point attempts, turning what was a 20-yard chip shot into the equivalent of a 42-yard field goal.
"There is no consensus yet," one member of the committee told NFL Media's Judy Battista. "We could experiment in preseason, but we are not there yet."
Kicks from the two-yard line were converted 99.6 percent of the time, removing basically any uncertainty from point-after-touchdown plays. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell floated the idea of removing the extra point entirely, but the competition committee appears to prefer other solutions.
The conversion rate for field goals between 40-49 yards long last season was 83 percent - well above the success rate of two-point conversions, which hovers around 50 percent.
