Lobbyist to introduce bill designed to ban gay players from NFL

The Michael Sam story has attracted a lot of attention since he announced he was gay earlier this month. Most of the attention has been positive, but with this kind of story there are some people who will look to use it to further their own personal agenda.

One such person is Jack Burkman, a Washington D.C. lobbyist that is working on legislation that would ban gay players from the NFL.

"We are losing our decency as a nation," Burkman said in a statement, via TheHill.com. "Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That's a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country. What in the world has this nation come to?"

Burkman didn't specifically name any members of Congress that would back the bill, but claimed he has plenty of political support.

"If the NFL has no morals and no values, then Congress must find values for it," Burkman said.

Dozens of members of Congress came out in support of Sam when he originally made his announcement. The legislation would likely have absolutely no chance of passing, but it's sad that a person would take this kind of step to try to keep someone from their particular profession. It just goes to show that despite the increased acceptance in society, some people still have a long way to go.
