Prospal chooses retirement over playing for Canucks' affiliate

Veteran forward Vinny Prospal will hang up his skates rather than reporting to the Vancouver Canucks' AHL affiliate.

Prospal was reportedly expected to be offered an AHL player tryout contract (PTO).

The 38-year-old played in 1108 regular season games in his career, scoring 255 goals and adding 510 assists.

Prospal tallied 13 points in 17 games during the 2007-08 playoffs, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a Conference Finals appearance.

He played for seven teams over a 16-year NHL career.
