GIF: Maple Leafs stars Phaneuf, Kessel collide near Toronto bench

What was supposed to be a routine line-change quickly morphed into something entirely more enjoyable (or terrifying, if you're a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs). 

Late in the second period of Sunday night's game between the Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins, Toronto forward Phil Kessel was skating casually to the bench, while hard-hitting Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf was looking to get into the play. 

Neither accomplished their goal, however, as the two stars instead took each other out in a rather amusing collision:

Dion Phaneuf left warm-ups before Sunday evening's game and there was some fear that he wouldn't play as a result of injury. Kessel meanwhile has been suspected of nursing a wrist injury for much of the past month. Both players appeared to be okay after this collision but the result of this mishap could've been a lot worse than mere embarrassment for the Maple Leafs...
