Penguins D Brooks Orpik stretchered off the ice after mugging by Bruins F Thornton

In a grotesque scene in Boston, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik was stretchered off of the ice after being mugged well after the whistle by Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton.

Orpik, who earlier in the game had caught and injured Bruins forward Loui Eriksson with an apparent clean hit that wasn't penalized, was jumped by Thornton from behind following a series of cheap shots on winger Brad Marchand by Penguins forwards Sidney Crosby and James Neal.

Thornton pulled Orpik down onto the ice and proceeded to punch the prone Penguins defender multiple times in the head. Orpik remained on the ice for several minutes before leaving the game on a stretcher.
