Cal Clutterbuck cut by skate, out for 'some extended time'

Cal Clutterbuck was apparently cut by a skate during New York's preseason opener and will be out of the lineup for a while. The mustached forward left the split-squad game following a hit from Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman.

Clutterbuck wasn't quite ready Tuesday, but could be available for both of the team's matchups over the weekend. The gritty winger recorded four goals and six assists in 42 games with the Wild last season, and should be familiar with the Hawks after last-year's first-round playoff meeting.

New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck practiced without a non-contact jersey on Monday and may be in the team's lineup as early as Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.

In order to activate him off injured reserve, the Islanders would have to remove a player off their 23-man roster.

Clutterbuck skated in Monday's practice with Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas.
