Iowa State names Matt Campbell head coach

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Toledo's Matt Campbell is making the jump to Power 5 conference football, as he's accepted an offer to become Iowa State's new head coach.

The move comes a day after the Rockets offered Campbell a new contract to make him the highest paid coach in the MAC. Iowa State will pay a $200,000 buyout to bring their new boss to the midwest.

Since taking over for Tim Beckman in 2011, the 36-year-old Campbell has compiled an impressive 35-15 record with Toledo, but faces a daunting task turning around the 3-9 Cyclones.

Paul Rhoads coached his final game for Iowa State on Saturday - a 30-6 loss to West Virginia - after the school announced his firing Monday.
