The NCAA denied Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt's request for a sixth year of eligibility, the school announced Friday.

Hunt broke his leg against Louisville in 2014 and missed the final seven games of the season. He came back for the 2015 opener against Rhode Island, but missed the remainder of the season again after suffering an Achilles injury in the first quarter.

"Obviously, it's very disappointing but I want to thank my teammates, coaches and all the Syracuse fans who have supported me through this process and during my time here," Hunt said. "Even though my career didn't turn how I thought it would, I still have a lot of great memories that I'll take with me for the rest of my life."

In 19 games for the Orange, he finished his career ranked 10th in team history with 2,621 passing yards. He also accounted for 24 career touchdowns (11 passing, 13 rushing) and shares the Syracuse single-game record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback with 156, a feat he accomplished against Maryland in 2014.
