Oregon State DC Sitake calls coaching style a 'remix'

Oregon State defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake defers to his former counterparts and mentors when asked about the hype surrounding his recent arrival in Corvallis.

Rather than boast about his own ingenuity, Sitake credits his peers for providing the ideas he's borrowed and blended into his own defensive scheme.

"To be honest with you, (my key is) not trying to be different," Sitake said, according to Gina Mizell of The Oregonian. "Everybody wants to have their own footprint and identity, but there's no ego involved with this - I'm OK with this being the way others have done it."

"Last time I checked," he added, "being a remix isn't a bad deal."

The highly-touted Sitake was brought over from Utah this past season after crafting a ferocious defensive unit during his tenure in Salt Lake City.

When Utah entered the Pac-12, he brought in an old-school aggressiveness that sought to highlight his key contributors and protect his weaker players against the league's notoriously explosive offenses.

"He knows what offensive coordinators are thinking. He knows what he would do if he was on the offensive side of the ball," Beavers linebackers coach Ilaisa Tuiaki said of Sitake. "A lot of times, you see that come out in the way that he coaches."
