LOGAN, Utah - Two Utah State athletes injured when their SUV was struck by a semi have been released from the hospital, but three others remain hospitalized.

Redshirt freshman Adewale Adeoye and senior John Taylor were discharged Sunday afternoon, three days after the accident.

They were among four football players, all defensive linemen, and a former softball player hurt when a tractor-trailer collided with their SUV about 20 miles north of Logan, where the university is located.

Redshirt junior Edmund Faimalo, senior Travis Seefeldt and former USU softball player Sarah Vasquez continue to improve but remain in area hospitals.

''Bottom line is they're in a lot of pain and discomfort, but they're very fortunate and we all are fortunate that they're alive and they're going to be OK eventually,'' football coach Matt Wells told The Herald Journal of Logan.

The Utah Highway Patrol says a preliminary investigation shows none of the athletes was wearing a seatbelt.

The athletes' Chevy Tahoe was eastbound on state Route 142 when it pulled into the intersection with state Route 23.

Patrol spokesman Jacob Cox has said the SUV driver, Seefeldt, could be ticketed for failure to yield. The semi hauling 52,000 pounds of milk had the right of way because there were stop signs on Route 142. Its two occupants escaped serious injury.

''Everyone associated with Aggie athletics ... (is) extremely thankful for the good news we have heard over the past two days on the condition of those involved in the accident. They are truly blessed,'' said interim athletics director Jana Doggett.
