Mississippi State flexes muscles with win over Kentucky in Lexington

With No. 2 Florida State on a bye, it was on top-ranked Mississippi State to solidify its position atop the national rankings.

Playing in its first game since moving atop the Week 8 AP poll following their win over Auburn on Oct. 11, the Bulldogs made short work of an improving Kentucky team, leaving Lexington with a 45-31 victory.

Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 216 yards and a touchdown with an interception, adding 88 yards and two scores on the ground. Running back Josh Robinson turned his 23 carries into 198 yards and two scores.

The game presented a definite letdown spot for the Bulldogs after they just ran the gauntlet in the SEC, playing three consecutive games against top 10 opponents. But Dan Mullen's squad kept its foot on the gas.

"One heck of a football team we just beat." Mullen told CBS's Allie LaForce. "I don't know if people give Kentucky enough credit."

For the Bulldogs, they'll need to continue getting up for lesser opponents with games against Arkansas and Tennessee-Martin on deck.

After that, Mississippi State closes out its season with dates at Alabama and at Ole Miss in a three-week span.
