LSU AD: 'A change has to be made'

Much to the chagrin of some fans, and to the delight of others, LSU fired head coach Les Miles along with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron on Sunday following a offensively challenged 18-13 loss to conference opponent Auburn.

First reported by Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva later released a statement confirming the firing:

Decisions like this are never easy ones to make. Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and he's been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult.

However, it's apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of the season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season haven't changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach Orgeron will do just that.

Miles departs from LSU with a sub-par 2-2 record in 2016, but leaves behind the legacy of a 114-34 record as well as continued relevance on a national scale supported by the 2007 National Championship and the 2011 SEC Championship.

Upon being named the interim replacement for Miles, defensive line coach Ed Orgeron tweeted out his optimism as the Tigers prepare to go on with their season.
