Less than a week after he was placed on probation, Baylor announced Monday the resignation of director of athletics Ian McCaw.

“After much reflection and prayer, I have decided that a change in athletics department leadership is in Baylor University’s best interest in order to promote the unity, healing and restoration that must occur in order to move forward. I have always sought to put the University’s needs ahead of my own. My time at Baylor has been an incredible journey filled with some of the most remarkable people I have ever known. I am grateful to Baylor Nation for its support and dedication, and to all who have done so much to advance the athletics program," McCaw said in the statement.

McCaw was sanctioned and placed on probation by the Baylor Board of Regents after it was discovered the university mishandled numerous sexual assault allegations.

Appointed to the position in September 2003, McCaw hired many coaches within the Baylor athletic program, including Jim Grobe who was hired as interim head coach for the 2016 season earlier Monday.

Before arriving at Baylor, McCaw was AD at Massachusetts and Northeastern.
