SEC discussing expansion to transfer restriction policy

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Last year, the SEC decided to ban transfers who were dismissed at their previous school for sexual assault or other types of sexual violence.

The restrictions were initiated after Alabama enrolled Jonathan Taylor after he was dismissed from Georgia when Taylor was arrested for domestic violence.

Taylor was arrested again while at Alabama for similar charges last March, which led to him being discharged from the program.

Now the SEC is looking to increase the rule, according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

The rule expansion would "bar transfers who were convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to a serious misconduct felony" and will be examined next week during the conference's annual spring meeting.

The Big 12 and Pac-12 also embraced their own transfer bans in relation to players with misconduct history.
