Want a top QB in 2017? Better hope on flipping a recruit
National Signing Day for the 2017 recruiting class is 10 months away, but programs in need of a top quarterback are already fast running out of luck.
With eight of the top 10 pocket-passing recruits and all 10 of the dual-threat quarterbacks already committed, programs in need of a top pivot will have to try to flip those who have already pledged.
After the nation's top-ranked dual-threat passer, Lowell Narcisse, committed to LSU earlier this week, here's where the top 10 are currently heading for college ball.
Rank | Player | Grade | School |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Lowell Narcisse | 86 | LSU |
2 | Kellen Mond | 85 | Baylor |
3 | Tate Martell | 84 | Texas A&M |
4 | N'Kosi Perry | 84 | Miami |
5 | Ryan Kelley | 84 | Oregon |
6 | Tua Tagovailoa | 84 | Alabama |
7 | Avery Davis | 83 | Notre Dame |
8 | Shawn Robinson | 82 | TCU |
9 | Chris Robison | 81 | Oklahoma |
10 | Sam Ehlinger | 80 | Texas |
It's certainly possible to flip recruits in the 10-month period before National Signing Day, but the fact that so many have already made a verbal commitment certainly takes away some of the drama left with the 2017 class.
The nation's seventh and eighth-ranked pocket passers, Jack Sears and Chase Garbers, are still available, but the rest of those on the list have already made their choice.
Rank | Player | Grade | School |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Dylan McCaffrey | 88 | Michigan |
2 | Hunter Johnson | 85 | Clemson |
3 | Sean Clifford | 84 | Penn State |
4 | Jake Fromm | 83 | Georgia |
5 | Daulton Hyatt | 83 | Arkansas |
6 | Jake Allen | 82 | Florida |
7 | Jack Sears | 82 | Undeclared |
8 | Chase Garbers | 82 | Undeclared |
9 | Myles Brennan | 82 | LSU |
10 | Bailey Hockman | 82 | Florida State |
LSU has landed commitments from both Narcisse and the nation's ninth-ranked pocket passer, Myles Brennan, leaving the door open to one of them flipping their decision.
Certain schools are already set with a young quarterback in the fold, so a lot can still happen, but those lacking talent at the position better get cracking.
