The woman who allegedly provided escorts to Louisville recruits and players could face criminal charges, and former Cardinals coach Andre McGee could also be charged as an accomplice.

Katina Powell could face prosecution for human trafficking or complicity to rape if there's evidence that she used her two underage daughters as escorts, according to The Courier-Journal's Andrew Wolfson.

If investigations reveal that McGee knew the women were underage, yet continued to pay Powell, he could be prosecuted as an accomplice.

Powell writes in her book, "Breaking Cardinal Rules," that she began using two of her daughters as escorts when they were 15 and 17. Powell says she provided escorts to Louisville recruits and players, which McGee paid her for.

McGee's attorney, Scott C. Cox, says he doesn't believe McGee will be charged.

"I am hopeful that any criminal investigation will clear Coach McGee because he has not violated any criminal laws.”

McGee is currently a coach at UMKC. After the scandal broke out, McGee was placed on paid administrative leave.

According to attorney Kent Wicker, if the scandal is investigated as a crime, a grand jury could subpoena players and recruits. If that produces evidence that corroborates Powell's story, Powell and McGee could be charged with complicity to statutory rape, which occurs when a person 21 or older has sexual intercourse with somebody under 16.

"It is not a good thing for the university or basketball team if felonies were committed in its dormitory," Wicker said.
