Junior college guard Donovan Jackson has pledged to play for Iowa State.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder out of Iowa Western Junior College is the first verbal pledge of the Cyclones' 2016 recruiting class.

"I just think it’s the best situation for me and my family," Jackson said, according to Scout.com's Evan Daniels. "I love the coaches there. I think that situation would be a great fit for me and they have a great playing style."

Jackson finished last season averaging 13.6 points per game.

"I’ve been kind of knowing that I wanted to go there," continued Jackson. "I would just love to play for Iowa State. Now I have that opportunity and I didn’t know want to pass on it."

Jackson chose the Cyclones over interest from Illinois, Virginia Tech, Mississippi, and UNLV, according to Scout.com.

"Offensively, I think it's going to be perfect," he said. "Coach (Steve) Prohm's last two point guards averaged 20 points a game. I think I can fit in and add a lot of assists as well."
