Report: Florida's KeVaughn Allen to seek release from letter of intent

Class of 2015 guard KeVaughn Allen may not be a Gator at the beginning of the next basketball season.

On the heels of head coach Billy Donovan's departure from Florida to coach the Oklahoma City Thunder, the four-star commit will request to be released from his National Letter of Intent with the Gators.

Allen's stepfather John Curry said on "Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly" on Monday that Allen will reopen his recruitment and is considering a commitment to the Arkansas Razorbacks, among other teams.

"Florida has to hire somebody before you can actually ask for a release. You can't ask for a release until they bring a new coach in, from my understanding," said Curry, according to Rivals' Danny West. "I'm just going by what I was told, once you get a coach hired, you can formally ask for your release. I don't know if that's true or not, that's just what we were told.

"His whole draw to Florida, besides a beautiful university, (was) the coaches. And that goes for a lot of high school kids. They go to a coach, that's who they go to."

Checking in at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, the Arkansas native is ranked 54th on ESPN 100 and chose to commit to Florida over offers from the Razorbacks, Connecticut, Memphis and Mississippi State.
