BYU ends Gonzaga's 22-game win streak with upset victory

Unranked BYU upset Gonzaga 73-70 on Saturday, to put a halt to the No. 3 Bulldogs's 22-game win streak.

Kyle Collinsworth led the Cougars with 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

The game took a dramatic twist late, as the Bulldogs made a comeback from 10 points down.

Guard Eric McClellan made a pair of free throws to get Gonzaga as close as 71-70, but his second made free-throw was costly, as it allowed BYU to deny their opponents the position to tie the contest.

McClellan finished the game with seven points and a rebound. 

The Bulldogs were led by guard Byron Wesley who scored 17 points with nine rebounds and a steal.

Forward Kyle Wiltjer was noticeably disappointing, shooting 2-of-11 from the floor, finishing with four points and six rebounds. Guard Kevin Pangos was not much better, he scored eight points on 3-of-12 shooting with five assists and four steals.

Collinsworth was supported by guards Chase Fischer who scored 13 points with four rebounds and Skyler Halford who dropped 14 points off the bench with four rebounds.

Both teams traded shots in the first half. ending tied at halftime, 32-32. 

BYU moves up to 23-8, while Gonzaga falls to 29-2. Neither team has a regular season game remaining to play.
