Minnesota gets comeback win over Michigan State in overtime

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota stunned Michigan State 96-90 in overtime at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich., on Thursday.

Golden Gophers guard Carlos Morris bricked the potential game-winning free throw after he was fouled on a made 3-point shot with just two seconds remaining in regulation and the teams even at 78.

Minnesota had stormed back after trailing by six with 34 seconds to play.

Morris finished the game with a team-high 20 points, four rebounds and a steal. He fouled out in overtime.

Guard Andre Hollins scored five of his 17 points and recorded two of his four assists in OT.

The Spartans, who came into the game riding a four-game win streak, were led by guard Denzel Valentine, who scored 27 points with seven rebounds and a block.

After leaving briefly in the first half with an apparent foot injury, Valentine came back to finish the game with seven 3-pointers made.

Forward Gavin Schilling, who fouled Morris on his tying 3-pointer, finished the game with four points and four rebounds.

The win moves Minnesota to 17-12, while Michigan State falls to 19-9.
