Iowa State guard Hallice Cooke to undergo surgery on both hips

Scott Olmos / USA Today Sports

Iowa State guard Hallice Cooke will be out of commission for the next six-to-eight months thanks to two balky hips that both require surgery.

According to the Associated Press, one of the hips will be operated on Monday, the second four weeks later.

As a redshirt, Cooke - who transferred from Oregon State after his freshman season - wouldn't have been able to suit up for the Cyclones this season anyway, but the surgeries mean he won't be able to practice with the team either, and will instead spend most of the year working his way back to health.

Cooke led all Oregon State freshman last season in minutes (26.3), points (8.2), rebounds (2.6), and assists (2.5), while leading the entire team in three-point percentage (45.6).
