FIU's awesome court has been damaged by RAID Games

The Florida International University Golden Panthers may not get a great deal of attention on the basketball court, but damn if your eyes shouldn't be on their actual court, at least once in a while. It's unique, it's interesting, and now it's damaged, thanks to something called RAID Games.

The weekend fitness competition "broke" the beach-themed arena court, according to the Miami Herald. They detail the damage:

Large dents in the floor, on both sides of midcourt and beyond the west sideline, make the surface manifestly unsafe. From the second level, the floor resembles a face that suffered under a razor wielded by a neophyte. A portable floor will be brought in to cover the regular floor. Considering the time it takes to replace a floor, the new floor wouldn’t go in until after basketball season or, perhaps, the arena hosts the spring graduation ceremonies.

Volleyball events have already had to be moved, and basketball practices are expected to follow. According to the athletic department's statement, the event was "fully insured," and "we anticipate repairs being complete over the next couple of weeks."

Have a look at the damage:

The men's basketball team open its schedule on Nov. 14 with a home game against Florida College. That gives them a tidy window for repairs to be completed.

RAID Games, by the way, are "a high-performance, strength and endurance competition designed to measure work capacity," very similar to CrossFit, by the sounds of it. For shame, RAIDers, or whatever you're called.
