The careers of legendary student athletes typically end in an unjust, heart-wrenching manner - it was no different for Doug McDermott.
The Bluejays forward scored the final 15 points of his career in Creighton's crushing 85-55 defeat to high-powered Baylor, cementing his place among the most-prolific college basketball players in the game's history.
McDermott's 3,150 points ranks him ahead of Oscar Robertson, Elvin Hayes and Larry Bird - to name a few.
Here are the top five scorers in NCAA history. With one more game, the Creighton star would have likely overtaken another collegiate legend.
Player | Team | Points |
---|---|---|
Pete Maravich | LSU | 3,667 |
Freeman Williams | Portland State | 3,249 |
Lionel Simmons | La Salle | 3,217 |
