The hero of North Carolina's 75-73 victory over Kentucky in the Elite Eight had no idea how much time was left on the clock when he uncorked the game-winning shot Sunday.

"I didn't really see the time," sophomore forward Luke Maye told reporters in the locker room. "(Theo Pinson) gave it to me and I saw I was open so I just shot it and luckily it went in."

For the record, Maye unloaded his shot with about 2.2 seconds remaining. The ball sailed through the hoop just 0.3 seconds before the buzzer.

Maye scored a career-high 17 points off the bench in the win after averaging 5.5 points per game for the season. The standout performance came two days after he dropped 16 points on Butler, which also represented a new career high at the time.

"I couldn't even have imagined something like that," he said. "I'm just so thankful that I was put in that opportunity."

The Huntersville, N.C., native will try to stay hot when the Tar Heels face Oregon in the Final Four on April 1.
