Kansas' Self: 'I didn't think we put our best foot forward'

Kansas head coach Bill Self dropped to 2-7 in Elite Eight games after the Jayhawks fell Saturday to Oregon.

Even more troubling is, under Self, Kansas has been a No. 1 seed seven times, but only made the Final Four once in those seven years.

For a coach who has won a national championship and 13 consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles, when it comes to the NCAA tournament, Self isn't able to get his team over the top more often than not.

"They all stick with me, and they'll stick with the players who've been part of it," Self said of the program staying close together, according to ESPN. "I'm disappointed more for them than I am for me. They put us in a situation to play for the highest stakes, and today we came up short. The one thing that did happen, and it's hard to admit: The best team did win today. Today. I didn't think we put our best foot forward like we have all season long."

With National Player of the Year candidate Frank Mason III a senior and star freshman Josh Jackson expected to leave for the NBA after one season in Lawrence, the Jayhawks will be looking for a new cast to try to win the program's fourth title, as their drought stretches to a decade.
