It's only the first week of December, and college basketball already has its first coaching departure of the season.

Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti has resigned from his position following a disappointing 1-7 start to the 2016 season, the school announced Tuesday, according to Cody Goodwin of The Des Moines Register. Assistant coach Jeff Rutter will be taking over head coaching duties on an interim basis.

Giacoletti was eight games into his fourth season as Drake's bench boss, compiling an overall record of 34-69 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
