Isaiah Austin cleared to play basketball 3 years after career-ending diagnosis

USA TODAY Sports

After being diagnosed with Marfan syndrome just days before the 2014 NBA Draft, it appeared that Isaiah Austin's basketball career was officially over.

However, the former Baylor star revealed in Cassy Athena's "Thru the Lens" series on Wednesday that he's recently been cleared by doctors to play the game he loves.

Austin doesn't mention whether he's looking to make an NBA roster, but did say he plans to "pursue his dream" now that he's officially cleared.

With a 7-foot frame and a knack for shooting the three, Austin was considered a virtual first-round lock prior to his diagnosis.

The 23-year-old was famously selected as an honorary draft pick by the NBA in 2014.
