UConn received some bad news Tuesday, as highly touted freshman Alterique Gilbert will be out for the season with a torn labrum, the school announced in a release.

The 6-foot guard suffered a dislocated shoulder Nov. 17 against Loyola Marymount, and further examination showed the injury was much more severe.

Gilbert came to UConn as the sixth-ranked point guard in the country and the top member of Kevin Ollie's 2016 recruiting class. Through the first two games of the season, Gilbert had averaged 10.3 points and 3.3 rebounds.

The injury is the latest development in a very difficult start to the season for the Huskies, which currently sit 2-4 including a pair of shocking losses to Wagner and Northeastern.

Gilbert is now the third member of the team that will miss the season due to injury, joining Terry Larrier and Mamadou Diarra on the sidelines. Larrier, who was averaging 13.5 points per game suffered a torn ACL earlier this month, while Diarra will sit out due to a chronic knee condition.
