Report: Syracuse vacates 2006 Big East title as part of NCAA penalty

Over a year after Syracuse was handed a penalty of 101 vacated wins resulting from an NCAA investigation into multiple violations, an NCAA official has confirmed win-loss records for each season affected by the penalty, according to Mike Waters of Syracuse.com.

The most glaring element of Syracuse's vacated wins is the inclusion of the 2006 Big East championship game, in which the Orange defeated Pittsburgh 65-61. Teams involved in games where the win is vacated, including the Big East title game, will not be impacted and not have wins awarded to them.

Season Original Record Adjusted record Number of vacated wins
2004-05 27-7 12-7 15
2005-06 23-12 0-12 23
2006-07 24-11 2-11 22
2010-11 27-8 20-8 7
2011-12  34-3 0-3 34

The report has Syracuse losing all of its victories from both the 2005-06 season as well as the 2011-12 season, meaning that the school's 2006 Big East title is also stricken from the record books. Syracuse will not be required to list specific games that are forfeited as a result of the penalties.

Head coach Jim Boeheim will also see his career win-loss record suffer as a result of the NCAA action, lowering his career win total to 884 heading into this coming season.
