NCAA moves tournament games from North to South Carolina

The first- and second-round NCAA tournament games scheduled for Greensboro, N.C., will take place in Greenville, S.C., instead, the NCAA announced Friday.

The organization decided to pull the games from North Carolina in September due to the controversial HB2 law, which passed in March, and opened the bidding process to find new venues shortly thereafter.

"We appreciate our member institutions and the many cities across the country who were involved in the bid process for these championship sites," said Jodi Comstock, NCAA interim executive vice president of championships and alliances. "The sports committees were pleased with the quantity and quality of the bids received and are confident the selected sites will host championships that provide an outstanding experience for student-athletes, membership and fans."

The games will be played March 17 and 19 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville.

The NBA moved its 2017 All-Star weekend out of Charlotte, N.C., because of the law as well.
