Syracuse lands ex-Nebraska star Andrew White

After pondering his future for two long months, former Nebraska standout Andrew White has decided to play his fifth and final NCAA season at Syracuse, he told CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

As a graduate transfer, White will be eligible to suit up for the Orange immediately.

White is coming off a breakout campaign with Nebraska that saw him post a career-high 16.6 points per game, shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from behind the arc. The former prized recruit initially attended Kansas out of high school, but seldom saw the floor there and transferred to Nebraska after averaging under 2.5 points per game for two seasons. He played just one year for the Cornhuskers, as he was forced to sit out the 2014-15 season as an undergraduate transfer.

His addition is a big one for Syracuse - at least on paper - as Jim Boeheim's club is looking to replace the lost production of top three scorers Michael Gbinije, Malachi Richardson, and Trevor Cooney.

White, who also secured 5.9 rebounds per contest last season, reportedly narrowed his potential transfer destinations down to Syracuse and VCU before making his decision. He'll have to move in quickly, as Syracuse begins classes Monday.

Despite his personal success at Nebraska, White's departure from the program wasn't without controversy. The Cornhuskers admitted they were reluctant to grant White his release, with head coach Tim Miles pointing the finger at the 6-foot-7 guard's father for influencing his decision to leave.
