Calipari: No suspension for Willis, will be 'under a different eye'

Derek Willis has dodged two severe consequences after his actions on June 11, first by escaping injury, and second by avoiding suspension.

Willis was arrested for public intoxication after officers discovered him lying in the road beside his car with the driver's side door open.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari announced in a press conference Thursday that Willis won't be suspended for his arrest, but he'll be "under a different eye," according to Kyle Tucker of SEC Country.

"You guys know I don't throw people under the bus. You guys know how I am. We deal with every situation in its own right. We gather information," Calipari said. "Derek knows that he's under a different eye now than he was, but I'm not going to tell you specifically what we did. I'm not going to write your stories and do all that stuff. But obviously he and I have talked a few different times."

Willis was given diversion in the case, which allowed him to serve an alternative sentence.
