St. Bonaventure has locked up head coach Mark Schmidt with a contract extension through the 2021-22 season, the school announced Wednesday.

The new deal comes with a raise for Schmidt and his assistants, which will be funded privately through donations.

"I've said many times that Mark is one of the best coaches in the Atlantic 10 Conference," athletic director Tim Kenney stated. "This is a well-deserved extension, not just based upon last season but the whole nine years he has been at St. Bonaventure. Mark has set a standard of excellence and we are committed to him long term as our head coach."

Schmidt led the Bonnies to a 22-9 record last year, and his squad was widely viewed as the biggest snub from the NCAA tournament.

He's been at the helm of St. Bonaventure for nine seasons, compiling a 146-131 mark over that span.
