Crean says Malachi Richardson was supposed to attend Indiana

It's all moot now, but Indiana coach Tom Crean said Thursday at the 2016 NBA Draft that former Syracuse guard Malachi Richardson was actually supposed to be a Hoosier.

"He told us he was coming," said Crean, who was a special guest on The Vertical's NBA draft coverage. "That didn't end up happening."

Richardson, of course, ended up playing his one collegiate season for Jim Boeheim and the Orange. After averaging 13.1 points per game and enjoying a sterling performance in the NCAA tournament, Richardson turned pro.

He was picked 22nd overall Thursday night by the Charlotte Hornets, though a proposed trade with the Sacramento Kings will likely see him play his pro ball on the West Coast.
