Carmelo on trade rumors: 'I'm not going anywhere'
The NBA rumor mill is churning, and while some trades will inevitably be consummated before the Feb. 18 deadline, the vast majority of the intel that comes out this time of year will turn out to be fluff.
Friday brought the biggest blockbuster trade rumor of 2016, with a report indicating the New York Knicks are in talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics about a potential deal that would send Carmelo Anthony to Cleveland and Kevin Love to Boston.
Anthony's future with the Knicks has been the subject of some speculation ever since rookie Kristaps Porzingis arrived in New York and established himself as the future of the franchise - a franchise with a timeline for contention that the 31-year-old Anthony may no longer fit.
But the five-year, $124-million contract Anthony signed in the summer of 2014 contains a full no-trade clause, meaning the decision on whether he stays or goes will ultimately be his to make.
As of right now, he appears intent on sticking around.
"There's always some trade s*** going," Anthony said Saturday on SiriusXM NBA Radio, when asked about the Cleveland rumblings. "I don't pay attention to those rumors. I'm not going anywhere."
During All-Star Media Day on Friday, however, Anthony sounded a bit less certain about his future when asked if he's ready to think about waiving his no-trade clause.
"Not yet. Not yet. Not yet," he answered.
"I'm pretty sure I'll have that conversation with myself, my family, my team. That's not a conversation right now."
