Joe Johnson held without FG for 1st time in 937 games

Joe Johnson has seen his production decline steadily in recent years, but one constant has remained: He's always been good for at least one field goal a night.

The 34-year-old Brooklyn Nets shooting guard came into Wednesday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies having hit a field goal in 937 straight games, a run spanning more than 12 years. It was the longest active streak of its kind in the NBA, and the eighth-longest in league history, according to ESPN.

The Grizzlies, though, managed to do the seemingly impossible, holding the seven-time All-Star scoreless on 0-for-3 shooting en route to a 109-90 win.

"I don't even know what to tell you," Johnson said of having the streak busted.

LeBron James now owns the longest active games-with-a-field-goal streak, 200 games clear of LaMarcus Aldridge.

Player Games
LeBron James 854
LaMarcus Aldridge 654
Kevin Durant 615
Al Horford 551

The last team to hold Johnson without a field goal was the New Jersey Nets, the since-transplanted franchise he now plays for, on Dec. 6, 2003. Johnson was 22 at the time, playing for the pre-Steve Nash Phoenix Suns.

"That's sad," Nets coach Tony Brown said after the game. "He's a great pro, but obviously it wasn't his best night. We were trying to do some things to start the third and get him some opportunities, but he came up short. Unfortunately, I hate to be the one to break that, but I wish I could've gotten him some more touches."

Johnson is averaging 11.5 points per game on 40 percent shooting this year, his lowest marks since 2002-03, the season before his streak began.
