Report: Nets firmly opposed to rebuild, intent on keeping Young, Lopez

Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov doesn't appear to be ready to give up on his floundering roster.

Instead of opting for a rebuild, Prokhorov is hoping to build upon what little the team has, and he's not willing to part with Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez, reports Howard Beck of Bleacher Report.

The Nets have been without a general manager for nearly a month, and any successor would presumably need to align with Prokhorov's vision of dreaming big.

Since taking over in 2010, Prokhorov has repeatedly tried for home runs while the team jumps from ogling one superstar to the next. His hope is to build a contender on the fly, and he's spent endlessly to that end, but the results have fallen well short of his expectations.

After years of mismanagement, the Nets are 14-39 on the year and they don't own their first-round picks for the next three seasons.

Fans have in turn pleaded for a more patient rebuild, starting with dealing useful veterans like Lopez and Young for younger pieces. That doesn't look to be the plan, though. Instead, it's more of the same that hasn't worked for the Nets.

Lopez is the team's leading scorer, averaging 20.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Young is second in scoring with 15.2 points and first in rebounding, with 9.1 per contest.
