J.J. Redick looking for edge in 3-point contest

J.J. Redick is still a little perturbed he didn't win the Three-Point Contest at last year's All-Star weekend in New York. That's why he's pulling out all the stops for Saturday night's event in Toronto.

"I realized that last year I grabbed the balls from the wrong side (of the rack) so I feel like I'm already ahead of where I was last year," Redick joked to reporters Friday.

The Los Angeles Clippers sharpshooter was then asked by CSN's Rosalyn Gold-Onwude about competing against Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

"I believe they're both near the top, if not the top on points per possessions on catch-and-shoot plays this year," Redick answered. "This is right up their wheelhouse. Obviously Steph is great off the dribble, he won it last year."

Curry is shooting 46.9 percent on catch-and-shoot treys this season, while Thompson's at 44.8 percent.

"I analyzed a shot chart the other day, figured out where my best shot should be," Redick added. "I'm gonna finish on the money rack in the right corner."

Redick is known for his engagement in the game off the floor, hosting his own podcast for Yahoo. The 31-year-old has seen his specialty of outside shooting skyrocket in value across the NBA over the course of his 10-year career, but he's not ready to say the 3-point contest has taken over as the premier event of All-Star Saturday Night.

"I don't know if (the Three-Point Contest has become) the main event," Redick said. "I think there's a renewed interest. I think part of it is the emphasis the NBA has placed on this event, the part is the evolution of the game."

Redick was also candid on the cyclical popularity of the Slam Dunk contest.

"I think people want to see stars in the dunk contest," he said. "I don't know, I'm not calling anyone out, I think that's the thing that has been missing from the dunk contest. But I think Zach (LaVine) has reinvigorated the interest in that."
