Curry: Kerr calls me out for bad shots but 'I don't know if he believes it'

Just about every NBA player has a leash. Some are longer than others, naturally, but even lenient coaches have their limits. So what's a coach to do with Steph Curry?

The reigning MVP (and front-runner to repeat), who is on pace to shatter his own single-season record for made 3-pointers, routinely takes shots few would dare attempt, without a second thought. He hoists spinning threes and off-balance threes and lightning-quick catch-and-release threes, usually without heed to where he's standing. He'll casually pull up, with a full shot clock, from the edge of the midcourt logo.

He's taken 128 more shots in the 25-29-foot range than any other player, and hit them at nearly as high a percentage (46.6) as his shots from five to nine feet (47.9 percent). He's also launched more shots than anyone from 30 feet and beyond, and while the league has hit 14.9 percent of such shots, Curry has connected on 40 percent.

So, is there such thing as a bad Curry shot? His Golden State Warriors coach says so, even if his conviction isn't all that strong.

"Coach (Steve) Kerr tells me that all the time," Curry told GQ's Clay Skipper, shortly before hitting 11 threes on his way to 51 points in a win over the Washington Wizards. "I don't know if he believes it half the time. I always have confidence, whether I miss four in a row or make four in a row, that the next one's going in.

"To a coach, sometimes that might not make sense. I think the time he yelled at me the most, I was like 1-for-6 from three and pulled up from 30 feet, just cause I was feeling good at the time - why I was feeling good, I have no idea, just stubborn confidence. I missed."

Asked if he ever finds himself amazed at what he's able to do on a basketball court, Curry said: "Yes and no. Most of the stuff I try in a game, in the moment I have supreme confidence I’m going to execute it. You go back and watch it, and, (think,) 'Yeah, that was pretty cool.' My favorite one is the one from the Clippers game last year, weaving through all the defenders. There's no reason I should've tried that. And it just happened to work out. That was a bad shot."

Kerr's reaction sorta says it all.
