Ricky Rubio frustrated with re-injuring ankle

Derick E. Hingle / USA TODAY Sports

Ricky Rubio appears fed up after aggravating the ankle that forced him to undergo season-ending surgery in 2014-15.

The 6-foot-2 point guard originally tweaked the ankle on Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers, but ended up worsening the injury when he faced the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. He was eventually forced to leave the game and did not return for the second half.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are a much better team with Rubio in the lineup, going 0-4 during the games he's missed this season. Last year, Minnesota was 9-44 when he failed to play.

Rubio has had an impressive season thus far, averaging 8.5 assists per game - third in the NBA - to go along with 10.7 points per game and a net rating of plus-8.3.

Rubio is hopeful to play Friday against the Sacramento Kings, according to Jon Krawcynski of The Associated Press.
