LeBron says he's not ready to follow Jordan into NBA ownership

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Despite building a significant presence in both the basketball and business worlds, LeBron James says he's not prepared to mimic his predecessor.

"I'm not there right now," James said when asked about following in the footsteps of Hornets owner Michael Jordan ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers' game in Charlotte on Friday night.

However, he didn't rule out owning a team altogether, stating: "It'd be great for anyone who can come in and own a ball club, that would be pretty cool stuff, and also his brand, it continues to make an impact. So it's pretty awesome to see what he's still able to do after being away from the game for so long."

James already owns a piece of a professional sports team, purchasing a stake in Liverpool F.C. in 2011.

Since Jordan purchased the Hornets in 2010, two other former NBA players have followed suit with at least minority stakes: Shaquille O'Neal with the Sacramento Kings and Grant Hill with the Atlanta Hawks.
