Wizards' Anderson out indefinitely after 2nd ankle surgery

Washington Wizards swingman Alan Anderson underwent a second surgery to remove bone spurs in his left ankle Tuesday, the team announced.

Anderson went under the knife in May to remove bone spurs from his ankle, but the 32-year-old continued to experience discomfort, thereby necessitating a second operation. The veteran sat out all three of the Wizards' preseason games to date before opting to undergo the second procedure.

A time frame for his return has yet to be determined.

The Wizards signed Anderson to a one-year, $4-million contract in the offseason to bolster the team's depth on the wing. Anderson averaged 7.3 points and 2.5 points over the past two seasons as a reserve for the Brooklyn Nets.

Fortunately, the Wizards have other options at the two- and three-spots. Players like Gary Neal, Martell Webster, and rookie Kelly Oubre are capable back-ups for entrenched starters Otto Porter and Bradley Beal.

However, with both Anderson and Jared Dudley (who had back surgery) sidelined, head coach Randy Wittman may be forced to lean heavily on Beal and Porter until their primary backups return to the lineup.
