VIDEO: Derrick Williams throws down nasty baseline reverse

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Derrick Williams appears to have gotten comfortable in his New York Knicks colors quite quickly.

The combo-forward was taking liberties - pun intended - against the Philadelphia 76ers in preseason action Monday, flashing the high-flying ability that has long made him an intriguing, if frustrating, prospect. The first came on a baseline reverse, a fantastic fit of body and ball control.

Shit, Derrick

The second dunk in the series wasn't really his own doing. Rookie point guard Jerian Grant hooked Williams up with a phenomenal, borderline unthinkable path, getting Williams an easy two points.

Williams will have to do more than dunk to deliver on the two-year, $10-million contract he signed this offseason, and he should have every opportunity to do so in New York. While the team's forward positions are a little crowded, the 24-year-old figures to be one of the team's primary reserve options.

Last season, Williams averaged 8.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 19.8 minutes with the Sacramento Kings, shooting 44.7 percent from the floor. Those numbers are roughly in line with his career marks through four seasons, during which he's averaged 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 22.4 minutes.
